Greetings from Safe Harbour
Cork is deep into Marquee season now, and this is the week it really shows. Two Door Cinema Club open things on Tuesday, Paul Weller lands on Friday, and Christy Moore closes the week on Saturday, both of the latter sre sold out but you might pick up a resale.
Away from the big tent, Ireland's first ever chilli festival takes over Marina Market for the weekend, Cyprus Avenue has gigs on the main floor and the rooftop, there is comedy being road-tested at Coughlan's and out in Leap, and the Triskel is running some good cinema.
This is our pick of what's on this week. For a full event list check out the link at the bottom of the email.
Let's dive in 👇
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Christy Moore
Saturday 27 June · 20:00 · Live at the Marquee
Here is a stat that says everything: in the entire history of Live at the Marquee, Christy Moore is the only artist to have played every single year it has run. Cork has adopted him, and he has returned the favour for over two decades. This one is listed house full, so if you are holding a ticket you already know how lucky you are.
The Irish Chili Festival
Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June · Marina Market
Ireland's first dedicated chilli festival, free in, and exactly the kind of mad idea the Marina does well. Hot sauces from across Europe, food trucks running everything from BBQ to vegan, a spicy cabaret, and an amateur chilli-eating competition run by the Clifton Chili Club, the lot who pulled 300 million YouTube views and a Netflix slot. Kids' area and well-behaved dogs welcome. A fiver donation on the door is the only ask.
Paul Weller
Friday 26 June · 20:00 · Live at the Marquee
The Modfather, five decades and twenty-eight albums deep, from The Jam through The Style Council to a solo run that never settled into nostalgia. Cork snapped this one up fast and it has sold out. If you are going, expect the back catalogue done with no apologies.

Two Door Cinema Club
Tuesday 23 June · 20:00 · Live at the Marquee
The Down trio kicking the week off under the big tent. Fifteen years of indie-disco singalongs that were built for exactly this kind of room, and a reliably good night when the crowd is up for it.
Other Mother and Guests
Thursday 25 June · 20:00 · Cyprus Avenue
Local indie and alternative night with Other Mother headlining over a bill of Cork supports. Cyprus Avenue at its best is the room where you catch a band a year before everyone claims they were there.

Live Lizzy: A Tribute to Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott
Saturday 27 June · 19:00 · Cyprus Avenue
A tribute to the man Dublin and the whole country still claims, done by people who clearly grew up on the records. "The Boys Are Back in Town" in a packed Cyprus Avenue is a fairly safe bet for a good Saturday.
Robert Grace: Wavelength
Saturday 27 June · 19:00 · Cyprus Avenue Rooftop
The Kilkenny pop-rock singer up on the rooftop, which is the nicest spot in the building when the evening holds dry. Catch the sunset, catch the set.

Summer Sessions
Saturday 27 June · 16:00 · Marina Market
Outdoor music, food and a loose afternoon by the water at the Marina, running alongside the chilli weekend. Show up hungry.
The Misfits
Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June · 17:30 · Triskel Cinema
A late-career John Huston picture that turned out to be the last completed film for both Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, written by Arthur Miller as his marriage to Monroe fell apart. A beautiful, sad accident of a film, and the Triskel is the right room to see it properly.
The Big Easy
Tuesday 23 June · 20:00 · Triskel Arts Centre
A screening with a filmmaker Q&A after, which is the sort of thing the Triskel does that the multiplex never will. Worth staying for the talk.
Comedy Cavern: Mark O'Keeffe Work in Progress
Tuesday 23 June · 20:00 · Coughlan's
New material being tested out in the back room of one of the city's best live pubs. Work-in-progress nights are cheap, loose and occasionally the funniest thing you will see all year because nobody is playing it safe.

Chris Kent: Work in Progress
Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June · 20:00 · Connolly's of Leap
The Cork comic heading out to Leap for two nights of trying new bits in front of a West Cork crowd. Connolly's is a pilgrimage worth making for the room alone.
The Cork City 48-Hour Film Challenge
Sunday 28 June · 10:00 · Various locations
Teams across the city given two days to write, shoot and cut a short film from scratch. Sunday is the deadline scramble, which if you have ever made anything to a clock is a genuinely fun thing to witness.
Cork City Libraries Family Workshop
Saturday 27 June · 11:00 · Cork City Library
A free morning of crafts and activities built for parents and kids to do together. Free, indoors, and a soft landing if the weekend weather turns.
